Guanyin, the Bodhisattva of Compassion
Those suffering or in great need call on Guanyin, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, for help. “Guanyin” means “listening to the cries of the world.” She sees all and answers all who call upon her, and she is therefore often depicted with many eyes and arms. Her peaceful expression is said to inspire calm. This contemporary image of Guanyin is based on a photo taken in the Asian Galleries of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The artists, Mike + Doug Starn, employed the use of a specialized camera and a unique carbon printing process to create the artwork. (tricycle.com)
